We believe we have the most advanced umpiring team of any social competition. We have 5 National B Badged umpires, and all other umpires are C Badged or working towards their C Badge under the guidance of Jacque, our Umpire Manager.

CitySide Sports has a very simple philosophy when it comes to our umpires: "We look after our umpires and in return they look after us, not the other way round!" Happy umpires, means happy teams. Teams pay good money to play and should receive umpires who are involved and in the right position at all times to make the best possible decisions - it's what the players deserve!

Why we deserve bragging rights...

We have a great working relationship with Parkville Netball Competition at the State Netball Centre to help us badge and train umpires through Netball Victoria, and while other social competitions might have talented umpire trainers, we believe they can't quite top Juleen Maxfield who holds training courses for us and critiques our umpires. Juleen's accreditations include; International Umpire, AA Nationally Accredited Umpire, previous position as Netball Victoria Head Umpire Developer and current VNL (Ladies State League) and M-League (Mens & Mixed State League) Umpire Coach.

Juleen has also been mentor for over 15 years to both Geoff Taylor, our Competition Manager (who has also held the position of Victorian Mens Umpire Director for the last 2 years and umpiring both VNL and M-League State Leagues working towards his National A Badge) and Jacque May, our Umpire Manager, also working towards her A through VNL and M-League.

The area that we feel some social competitions of any sport let themselves down, is by having a "The Umpire is always right" attitude. At CitySide Sports we understand that the umpire is not always right, and any umpire taking on a role with us is required to understand that they should always be learning. You should expect from your umpires that they are willing to learn (and eager to do so) from their supervisors, take respectful concerns and queires from players on board, and work hard to be in the right positions at all times. Laziness is not a factor here at CitySide Sports!
